Goal setting, like anything else worthwhile, takes time and dedication. There are many different processes and styles of goal setting available, however, you should choose one that works for you. In this hub post we propose a simple five step approach that can be applied to different goal setting scenarios which will help you take control of your goals and turn your goals into reality.

As a starting point, we want to emphasize the great focus that you should put on planning. We definitely believe the saying: If you fail to plan you plan to fail.

This goal setting hub post is very simple and the five step approach will help you to gain context for your goals. In other words, it puts your goals on a plan. This planning will help lead into your goal planning, and will help you achieve your goals – what could be easier!  So here we go.

1:  What is to be done?

2:  When is it to be done by?

3:  Where will it be done?

4:  How will it be done (the tasks involved, stages/key points etc)

5:  Who will do it and whose help is needed

The steps are simple yet effective. To follow it all you have to do is the following:

  • Firstly clear define what is to be done or what you want to achieve.
  • Secondly, set a date in concrete. This will help you determine how much time needs to be undertaken to do the job.
  • Thirdly detail where will it be done (this gives you some spatial context to your plan and your goal)
  • Fourthly, and this is the important step, work out how it will be done. Undertake some brainstorming, use Gantt charts or any tools that you have that will help you work out stages, key points etc.
  • Finally work out who will be doing the work – most likely you – and importantly, whose help you will need.

As you can see it is quite simple, but simple is often better! If you want to learn more goal setting tips and tricks then check out our free ezine The Goal Setting Ezine . We will even give you a free goal setting e-book just for checking us out!
